Fishing Charters
- Fishing opportunities in Cape Breton vary by season. Below is a table with the fishing seasons for our local species, along with information about our deep sea fishing and inshore fishing trips. Let us know when you'll be in the area, and we can recommend a fishing trip that gives you the best opportunity to put fish in the boat.
Deep Sea Fishing
Our most popular fishing trip, we travel up to 20 nautical miles from our dock to fish offshore ledges and banks in search of various groundfish species. On these trips we sometimes fish in depths over 200 feet of water in search of Atlantic C, White Hake, Pollock, and Wolffish.
Deep sea fishing trips are approximately 4.5 hours in duration. We can accomodate up to 6 guests on these trips, however we recommend a maximum of four for a more comfortable day.
A typical trip starts by making a stop around the entrance of Sydney Harbour to drop flies in search of fresh mackerel to use for groundfish bait. Once we have bait in the cooler, we head offshore to rocky ledges where we catch various groundfish species.
All fishing equipment is provided, and no fishing licences are required in tidal waters.
The limit for mackerel is 20 fish per fisher with a minimum fork length of 268mm.
The limit for groundfish is an aggregate of 5 fish per fisher. No Halibut, Northern Wolffish or Spotted Wolffish can be retained. There are no minumum or maximum size limits for groundfish.
Inshore Fishing
Inshore fishing in the waters around Sydney offer the chance to catch Atlantic Mackerel, Winter Flounder and Striped Bass, among other species. Fishing methods include bait fishing and trolling with lighter fishing gear than our deep sea fishing trips.
Inshore fishing trips are approximately 4 hours in duration. Species targeted depend on the time of year and fish migrations as Striped Bass and Atlantic Mackerel are highly migratory species.
We can accomodate up to 6 guests on these trips, however we recommend a maximum of four for a more comfortable day
All fishing equipment is provided, and no fishing licences are required in tidal waters.
The limit for Striped Bass is one fish between 68cm and 150cm per fisher.
The limit for Mackerel is 20 fish per fisher with a minimum fork length of 268mm.
The limit for Winter Flounder is 5 fish per fisher. They are considered groundfish so there is no size limit.
Fish cleaning is available by a third party provider at an additional cost of $3/fish. Please let us know at least 72 hours in advance if you would like this service arranged for you.
